Licence
Agreement

Last updated 07 September 2026. The version in force on the date of your receipt applies to your purchase.

MaverickType is a type foundry operated by Nikita Kanarev, Buenos Aires, Argentina. This licence agreement is between us and the person or company named as licence holder on your receipt ("you"), and takes effect when you download the fonts.

Purchases are processed by Paddle, acting as merchant of record and authorised reseller — the contracting Paddle entity depends on where you buy from and is named on your receipt. You buy from Paddle; the fonts are licensed to you by us. Paddle's buyer terms govern the transaction — payment, tax and refunds — and this agreement governs what you may do with the fonts. Completing the purchase means accepting both. Paddle's name, not ours, is what appears on your card statement.

You are buying the right to use the fonts, not the fonts themselves. The typefaces, their designs, names and trademarks remain our property; all rights not granted here are reserved. The licence is non-exclusive, non-transferable, and perpetual.

Licensed users are individual people you designate — human beings, not teams, departments, servers or bots.

Desktop

Covers producing print and digital work: publications, print and outdoor advertising, signage, non-interactive screens, packaging, merchandise, presentations, corporate documents, logos and wordmarks, static images for web and social, ePub embedding, and non-broadcast video for your own site and channels. No additional fee for logo use, whatever the value of the work.

One seat is one person across as many devices as they work on. Seats are reassignable; former users delete their copies. Your number of users must never exceed your seat count.

Does not cover: web serving, embedding in software, or broadcast media.

Web

Self-hosted @font-face using the WOFF2 files, bound to one domain and all its subdomains, named on your certificate. Staging and preview environments of that project are included.

Tiers are based on monthly pageviews of the pages using the font — not the whole site, not unique visitors. Email templates to your subscribers and dynamic web advertising requiring live fonts are covered.

Not covered: serving from a domain not on your certificate, or hosting through a third-party font service. The files stay on infrastructure you control.

App / eBook

Embedding the font inside software you distribute: mobile, desktop and web apps, games, kiosks, embedded devices, reflowable ebooks. Priced by installs or copies distributed. Internal tools used only inside your organisation are covered by your Desktop seats.

Covers embedding for rendering only. End users must not be able to extract the font as a usable file. Software that lets end users set type in our fonts to produce their own documents or customised products needs a separate agreement.

Broadcast

The fonts appearing in media distributed to an audience: film, television, streaming, commercials, in-game cinematics, out-of-home motion, and the marketing promoting that content. No separate files are issued — you use your Desktop files.

The line: your own channels with no media buy is Desktop. A media budget, a broadcaster, a distributor or a paid placement makes it Broadcast.

Sharing the fonts

Contractors, freelancers and agencies working on your behalf may be licensed users within your seat count, for your projects. You are responsible for their compliance and for files being deleted when the work ends.

You may send the fonts to a printer or production house for a specific job; they delete their copies afterwards.

You may install the fonts on one file server on your local network; it counts as one seat, and the people reaching it count against your seat total.

Make as many backups as you reasonably need, kept where unlicensed people can't reach them. Otherwise, do not put the fonts anywhere the public or unlicensed people can obtain them — public repositories, shared drives, asset packs, community files. If they leak, tell us; we would rather help you fix it.

If a parent company buys for a subsidiary, the parent is responsible for the subsidiary's compliance. A subsidiary's licence does not extend upward to its parent.

If you buy on a client's behalf, make them aware of these terms. Use by them that breaks the licence counts as a breach by you.

Permitted

Generate static instances from the variable font, and subset for web performance — these are technical operations on files you licensed, and the results stay under this licence. Create outline artwork from the letterforms. Embed the fonts read-only in PDFs and EPUBs, taking reasonable care they can't be extracted. Show the fonts in your portfolio and pitch decks.

Not permitted

Selling, renting, lending, sublicensing or giving away the fonts. Publishing them where unlicensed people can obtain them. Redrawing or modifying the glyphs — if a project needs a bespoke glyph, an alternate or a kerning fix, ask us; the answer is usually yes, in writing, and we may fix it upstream for everyone. Reverse-engineering or converting the formats beyond the instancing and subsetting above. Using the fonts or their outlines as training data for AI or ML models or datasets. Embedding them in anything whose purpose is to distribute fonts. Making alphabet products — stamp sets, rub-on lettering, house numbers, adhesive letters, punch and die sets.

Changes in use

Upgrades are credited: you pay the gap between what you paid and the current price, not the full new price. Changes are dated from when you tell us; nothing is applied retroactively and there is no penalty. There is no refund for reducing use, but seats can be reassigned.

On a merger, acquisition or name change, tell us. Same use, we reissue the certificate at no cost; wider use, we price the difference. You may not otherwise transfer this licence without our written consent.

We may ask you to confirm your use still matches your certificate, with at least five working days' notice, and will ask for nothing beyond that.

Termination

We notify you of a problem and you have 30 days to remedy it. If you don't, the licence terminates: you stop using the fonts, delete every copy including backups, and confirm to us that none remain. We may then pursue any remedy available to us. Deliberate redistribution terminates the licence immediately.

Warranties and liability

The fonts are provided as they are. We stand behind their quality and fix what is broken, but we cannot warrant that they suit every purpose or run without fault in every environment. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid.

General

All prices are one-off. Sales tax, VAT or GST is calculated and collected by Paddle where it applies in your country; if you are registered for that tax, reclaim it through Paddle. If you pay by bank transfer against an invoice, any fees your bank charges are yours to cover and may not be deducted from the total.

We may revise these terms as technology and use cases change. Revisions are not retroactive: whatever your purchase permitted at the time, it continues to permit.

If any part of this agreement is unenforceable, the rest still applies. It is governed by the laws of Argentina.
